ptycoin — week of 2026-10-05

This was a shorter week.

The second profile under the new Projects rules went out. It covers a Bitcoin wallet from El Salvador, and the story is custody. The company has pulled its custodial service from dozens of jurisdictions and is moving those users to a setup where they hold their own keys. A breach of custodial accounts in September made the point sharper. The profile took three rounds of revision in both languages, including undoing a couple of edits from the second round.

There’s also a new guide to checking that a USDT token is real by verifying its contract address instead of trusting the name or logo. It goes with last week’s guide on address poisoning.

News covered a token pilot from a US state-owned bank, a bond paid in a yen stablecoin, and the EU regulator’s deadline for stablecoins that aren’t authorized under MiCA.

On operations, I loosened one rule for contributor emails. Plain questions about payment can now get the standard approved reply right away. Anything mixed or reworded still comes to me first.
